Theory and Practice to Create a Coherent Paragraph
Target: 2 meetings
Coherence
In addition to unity, coherence plays a crucial role in making a paragraph read well. Every coherent paragraph contains smoothly-connected ideas. Each sentence moves on naturally. The paragraph is like a well-built highway, vehicles run smoothly on it without encountering too many obstacles. On the contrary, the incoherent paragraph might be like a zig-zag, bumpy mountain road; vehicles cannot move fast or easily on it. Compare the following figures.
To achieve coherence, the writer needs to use the transitions, such as, however, although, finally, and nevertheless. As the word implies, a transition is similar to change from one item of idea to another. A coherent paragraph consists of interrelated sentences which move in such a way that they smooth the way, one for the other. Without transitions, it is difficult for (beginning) writers to produce a coherent paragraph.
Using appropriate transitions, writers will not jump out of the blue or sound too abrupt. Their ideas will flow smoothly one after the other. Read the following and pay extra attention to the transitions which are italicized.
As we can observe, almost every sentence in the paragraph above begins with a transitional word. As a matter of fact, we can delete some of them. Since we intended to supply a sample paragraph containing as many transitional words or expressions as possible, we included all the transitions by intention. It is understandable if some of us argue that the paragraph, in fact, does not read naturally; it contains too many transitions.

ReplyDeleteRecently, I bought shoes at one of the online shops, and the shoes that came were as good as I expected. Unfortunately, the shoe size is too big for me. Although the size is too big, however, I am quite relieved because the goods can be exchanged with the note that the shipping costs are borne by the buyer. After about a month or so, I just remembered that I haven't sent the shoes back. I then contacted the online shop admin earlier, but the admin replied that the warranty period was only 7 days. I was very disappointed when I read it. Nevertheless, I was disappointed with the online shop admin's answer, moreover, since I haven't worn the shoes at all. Lately, I have been less enthusiastic about doing activities, even though I have a lot of work to do immediately such as college assignments, house cleaning assignments, and organization. Athough I'm lazy to do it, I still have to finish it. Besides that, those assignments are an obligation that has been entrusted to me. So like it or not, it have to be done. Certainly, soon there will be a semester break, and there will definitely be lots of time for me to rest and enjoy life. Unfortunately, I still haven't been motivated, maybe I lack motivation, recreation, or support system, I don't know.

ReplyDeleteThis year in September I was conducting a theatrical play held by a theatre in uin salatiga. Actually, playing the main character of the royal age was a challenge for me but with the support of my friends led me to agree with it. And besides, since this is the first big stage I'm doing, it warms my heart with the enthusiasm of the audience. In rehearsal day I can act well, but all of a sudden the next day, the day of the actors... worry shows up and makes me nervous and lousy at what I do. Long story short, the audience cheers it up to me to perform and to give a memorable performance to the audience.
One day that week, my friends and I were going on a picnic to the Tumpeng Menoreh tour. On the way, luckily very smooth and safe. After passing through the city streets, we enter the village road. And actually really beyond my expectations. The unlucky thing is, the road suddenly took us by surprise because it was so steep. Certainly it is really made us parno with what is passed. However, it all paid off with a very beautiful view when seen from the tumpeng incised. From there, I learned that, even though the road that is passed is very steep, but it's all a process to be able to get what you want.

Lately I feel bored and tired because there are too many organizational activities and college assignments. Because of that my friend and i decided to go somewhere to overcome the boredom. We decided to go to the beach. On the beach we do many things, the first we play in the water by the beach, then, after being satisfied playing in the water my friend and I decided to order food, we didn't order much food because we had eaten before going here. the last thing we do is take a photo, a very good view makes our photos very good too. TASK 2
Recently in this week specifically on Wednesday and Thursday, UIN Salatiga held a graduation event. Therefore, students in the FTIK faculty had online learning classes. Interestingly, students in class 3A only attend in campus on Tuesdays out of five days. This is because on Monday the lecture have meetings and on Friday the lecture decides for online learning. Some students who want to homecoming were disappointed because the lecture in Friday informs them on Thursday night, so they can't go home early, like in Wednesday. Recently, I decided to take a trip to a remote mountain area for a change of scenery. Interestingly, I found out that there was a small town nearby that was famous for its hot springs. Although I wasn't initially interested in visiting the town, I eventually decided to check it out. Luckily, I had packed my swimsuit with me, so I was able to fully enjoy the hot springs.
